Tiger Pipefish
(Filicampus Tigris)
(Filicampus Tigris)
The Tiger Pipefish (Filicampus Tigris) is a long slender fish in the family of pipefish (Syngnathidae), with a similar face to the typical seahorse (like the White's Seahorse) but with a snake-like or eel-like body. They are usually laying on the sand and wriggle around in snake like movement as they hunt for food.
I love these guys. I always knew about seahorses when growing up, but who knew there were so many species in this family? The Tiger Pipefish has the same face as a common seahorse but an elongated body, almost snake like. The pattern on this guy is stunning, but makes a very good camouflage too. |
